Hamilton Island Golf Club occupies Dent Island, because ordinary resort golf apparently was not dramatic enough. Peter Thomson's 18-hole, par-71 championship course stretches 6,120 metres across steep ridges, narrow landing areas and ever-present Whitsundays breezes, with panoramic island and Coral Sea views competing for attention. Public nine and 18-hole rounds include return ferry transfers from Hamilton Island and a shared two-seat motorised buggy. Club hire, shoe hire, tuition, putting and chipping greens, an on-course refreshment buggy, golf shop, restaurant and bar turn the journey into one of Australia's most distinctive golf days.

Spectacular ocean panoramas and a rugged, clever routing make this island course an unforgettable test for serious golfers; turf and greens are generally well tended and the clubhouse meal finishes the day on a high note. Expect brutally penal rough that swallows errant shots.
